On the drive to Sossusvlei visitors will pass the fascinatingly shaped Dune 45. It owes its name to the fact that it is 45 kilometers from the park entrance gate at Sesriem. The fact that the dune is approximately 170 meters tall and the collection picturesque dry trees scattered around the dune make it the most photographed dune in the world. Close by you will find the viewpoint called Sossusport. From here, visitors can enjoy a unique view over the surrounding landscape consisting of fascinating dunes, the river valley and mountains. This is a must-do stop on your way through to Sossusvlei.
